As our legal system, and the number of lawyers, has grown over the years, so too have the occurrences of legal malpractice.  Legal malpractice cases can be complex, and they often involve going up against large malpractice insurance companies and the law firms they hire to defend malpractice suits.  Legal malpractice involves the lawyer's failure to exercise ordinary skill, prudence and diligence and damages to the client caused by that failure.  Legal malpractice can take many forms, such as missing a statute of limitations or other critical filing deadline, performing an inadequate title search in a real estate transaction, breaching a fiduciary duty, engaging in a conflict of interest, mishandling client funds, and charging fees beyond those provided in a fee arrangement.

Firm History

Mr. Olsen graduated with high honors from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1973, and served as an officer in the United States Navy for four years, before attending the University of Texas School of Law. An Articles Editor for the Texas Law Review, he graduated with honors in 1980, and served for one year as law clerk to the Honorable Homer Thornberry, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, before entering private practice.

Mr. Olsen's career path then took him from large, prominent defense firms, to a small litigation boutique, and finally to his own trial practice in downtown Dallas.  Mr. Olsen, then single, moved in 1997 to Jensen Beach, on the Treasure Coast of Florida.  In 2012, married with young children, he and his family decided to move back to Austin.  With today's technology, and licensed to practice in both Texas and Florida, Mr. Olsen will continue to handle significant cases involving legal malpractice in both states.
